Education with a Delicious Twist

Winnipeg, MB March 2, 2007)
– Agriculture in the Classroom – Manitoba (AITC-M) is coming to the Forks Market in Winnipeg to help “Celebrate Agriculture in the City” on March 9th – 11th, 2007. To make it a real celebration, AITC-M is bringing food and entertainment.

AITC-M is truly going to add to the celebration as it brings it’s Made in Manitoba Breakfast program, hands on education stations, and an interactive main stage presentation. AITC-M Executive Director, Johanne Ross states; “This event gives AITC-M a superb opportunity to connect with people about the importance of agriculture everyday, in a fun, interactive way.  Its who you are and what you do, it all starts with agriculture!”

To launch the event AITC-M is hosting a delicious tasting Made in Manitoba Breakfast. The primary purpose of the breakfast is to empower students to experience the taste of local food products, meet producers who produce that food and share in an activity about agriculture. AITC-M is thrilled to host Inkster School from Winnipeg SD #1 at the Forks Market to enjoy the Made in Manitoba Breakfast experience.

After the students eat breakfast, they will take part in several hands on learning activities that will be set up by several agriculture displays at the forks.  AITC-M is hosting a variety of hands on activities to include canola crushing, wheat grinding and agriculture puzzles.  All of these activities are open to the general public to come and take part to learn & experience more about agriculture.

In addition to all of the great booths, visitors to the Forks Market can also enjoy an interactive presentation on the Celebration Stage.  AITC-M is going to be featured on the stage Friday at 5:30PM, and Saturday and Sunday at 3:30PM. Visitors will be engaged in an interactive game called “Name that Commodity”.

Agriculture in the Classroom Manitoba is a non-profit organization supported by individuals and the agriculture industry.  It’s mandate is to “Heighten agriculture awareness in Manitoba schools.”
