Farmers, Food and Fun

(Brandon, MB January 9, 2007) – The largest indoor agriculture show in Canada is coming to the Keystone Centre January 16th to 18th.  This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Manitoba Ag Days and Agriculture in the Classroom – Manitoba (AITC-M) is ready to help celebrate with food and fun.

To help launch the 30th year of Manitoba Ag Days, Agriculture in the Classroom – Manitoba (AITC-M) along with Manitoba Ag Days will be hosting a kick-off breakfast on January 16th for only a loonie at the Roadhouse in the Canad Inns.  All proceeds will go to AITC-M helping the organization to continue to offer hands-on, experiential, agricultural based learning opportunities for students across the province. Breakfast starts at 7:30 and is open to anyone who likes to start their morning off right with a good breakfast.

AITC-M also has groups of students from all across Manitoba coming to Manitoba Ag Days to take part in the Amazing Agriculture Race.  AITC-M Executive Director; Johanne Ross states; “We are thrilled to partner with MB Ag Days once again, for our 8th year of school tours at the event.”  Students will start the morning off by gaining some knowledge about agriculture through several interactive stations.  After lunch they will make their way over to the displays at the Keystone Centre and the Amazing Agriculture Race will begin.  “Students will have to use a map of the grounds to navigate their way through the hundreds of agricultural displays at Manitoba Ag Days to find the answers to questions they will be given at each stop,” noted Ross.  The race also will include “road blocks” where the students will have to complete a task before they are able to move on. The groups that get the farthest in the race will have their school entered to win an AITC-M Made in Manitoba Breakfast for their whole school.

Agriculture in the Classroom Manitoba is a non-profit organization supported by individuals and the agriculture industry.  It’s mandate is to heighten the awareness and importance of agriculture in Manitoba schools.  The organization runs several programs throughout the year including the Amazing Agriculture Adventure, the Teacher Learning Adventure, farm tours and other special events.  AITC-M also develops and distributes teacher resources to help deliver agriculture information for use within the school curriculum.
