Put a Face to Your Food

(Winnipeg, MB April 7, 2008 ) – A celebration is never complete without delicious food. Have you ever wondered how the food gets onto your plate? Agriculture in the Classroom – Manitoba Inc. (AITC-M) spends all year educating students about just that.

Through a variety of programs, AITC-M talks to over 16,000 students of all ages and teachers about the role that agriculture plays in the food they eat, clothes they wear, and items they use everyday.  On April 10, 2008 supporters of AITC-M will gather at the Winnipeg Winter Club to celebrate the successes of the 2007 year at AITC-M’s 19th Annual General Meeting.  AITC-M Executive Director, Johanne Ross states; “What better way to show our appreciation for our members than to treat them to a celebration lunch.  This event gives AITC-M members the opportunity to take part in a variety of interactive food stations as they learn about the many delicious aspects of agriculture.”

The afternoon will start with members moving around the room sampling at a variety of food stations.  Each station will feature a different agricultural commodity and will include one food item, a local producer, and an interactive activity specific to that commodity.  Hopes are that everyone will connect the delicious food with the producer standing at the table, not just a grocery store.

Following this lunch on the move, members of AITC-M will meet to review a successful 2007 year and look forward to the future.  After extensive work the organization is also very excited to be launching a new project for the industry.  The Faces of Agriculture project will expand AITC-M’s audience out to general consumers.  With the help of the agricultural industry, this project will introduce the public to the faces and personalities of agriculture.

Agriculture in the Classroom Manitoba is a non-profit organization supported by individuals and the agriculture industry.  Its goal is to “Cultivate in Interest in Agriculture.”
