I would like young and old alike to recognize how important our farmers are to our country. They provide safe high-quality food to the world and contribute greatly to our economy. As a former producer, I truly believe our youth need to have a connection to where their food comes from.
AITC-M is fulfilling this through education in a fun and inter-active way. I am very proud to be a part of this organization and am honored to have the opportunity to help educate our consumers. I am also truly impressed with the dedication of our volunteers and board members.

In Canada, the availability of abundant, safe, affordable food is taken for granted. An increasingly urban population has a decreasing knowledge of the agri-food industry. Yet this industry meets every citizen's basic need - to eat! It has implications for social and economic stability and is highly political. This industry is everyone's business. As a farmer and an educator I believe in preparing our youth so they can make informed decisions as they become the policy makers, voters and consumers of our future.

Having grown up on a farm in rural Manitoba, I was fortunate to learn about agriculture first-hand. My two sons now have the same opportunity that I did. I believe it is extremely important for our youth to know where their food comes from. AITC-M makes this happen with fun and inter-active programs and activities. I am excited to be a part of this organization because of it’s importance in educating our youth about agriculture. |

Throughout university, the more I learned about agriculture, the more I wanted to help dispel myths and promote this diverse and important industry. Agriculture in Canada not only feeds us, it clothes and houses us. Living on a farm and being part of agriculture I really see the need to encourage future generations to take part in agriculture. Agriculture in the Classroom gives me the opportunity to share my knowledge with and engage youth in agriculture.

I have enjoyed learning more about agriculture through working with AITC right along with the students we are educating. With a limited background in agriculture, I as an adult have gained a new appreciation for the industry. Being a part of AITC allows me to promote the importance of all aspects of agriculture and enlighten students to the many different job opportunities available. |
