As a mother of three young boys, I strongly believe in the work AITC-M carries out. Many students in Manitoba have lost the connection to agriculture and where their food comes from. With AITC-M's efforts through our varied resources and dynamic programs, this connection is being rebuilt. Kids are interested in our industry and they care. Its not just about creating an awareness of the opportunities in our industry but more about creating informed consumers and passionate decision makers to ensure a bright future for agriculture. I am proud to be involved with AITC-M and I enjoy constant reward in our important work.

With a background in education, I have seen first hand the lack of agriculture awareness amongst students.  The programs that AITC-M offers are a great fit into the school system, linking agriculture education to the already existing curriculum outcomes.  Teachers have the overwhelming task of covering a demanding curriculum and I am excited to be in a position to offer resources that can be used in their classrooms.  I am a strong believer in experiential learning and a multiple intelligences approach to education.

I would like young and old alike to recognize how important our farmers are to our country. They provide safe high-quality food to the world and contribute greatly to our economy. As a former producer, I truly believe our youth need to have a connection to where their food comes from.
AITC-M is fulfilling this through education in a fun and inter-active way. I am very proud to be a part of this organization and am honored to have the opportunity to help educate our consumers. I am also truly impressed with the dedication of our volunteers and board members.

In Canada, the availability of abundant, safe, affordable food is taken for granted. An increasingly urban population has a decreasing knowledge of the agri-food industry. Yet this industry meets every citizen's basic need - to eat!It has implications forsocial and economic stability and is highly political. This industry is everyone's business. As a farmer and an educator I believe in preparing our youth so they can make informed decisions asthey become the policy makers, voters and consumers of our future.

Having grown up on a grain farm in ruralManitoba I have had the opportunity to learn about the agricultural industry. Now as a grain producer myself and raising my kids on a farm I am able to teach them about agriculture and they can see first hand where their food comes from.  With an increasingly urban population, the majority of the youth in our province are not exposed to farm-life.  This is what makes AITC-M such a great program for our youth.  It provides schools with fun and inter-active activities that increase the student’s awareness of agriculture and the opportunities within the industry.  I feel very fortunate to be a part of AITC-M because of its importance in educating our youth so they will someday be more informed consumers.
