Agriculture in the Classroom

Global Youth Institute

Apply before January 27, 2020

Every year, Agriculture in the Classroom-Manitoba (AITC-M) and 4-H Manitoba (4-H MB) send two high school students with an interest in global food security and agriculture to represent Manitoba at the Global Youth Institute in Des Moines, Iowa in October. The selected students and their teacher/mentor representatives receive airfare, accommodation and all GYI conference expenses paid for the four-day event.

About the Global Youth Institute:

The Global Youth Institute (GYI) is held concurrently with the World Food Prize and the Borlaug Dialogues International Symposium.

The GYI gives high school students and their teachers/mentors the opportunity to:

  • Explore the issues, current research and opportunities to make a difference in the world
  • Connect with other student leaders to share ideas, identify solutions and build lasting friendships
  • Interact with global leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs working to end hunger and poverty and improve food security around the world.

How to apply:
Applications are closed for 2020. Apply by for 2021  in January, 2021. AITC-M and 4-H MB will then interview applicants and select two students to represent Manitoba at the GYI. Both students are required to research a global issue and write a five-page paper under the supervision of their teacher/mentor and submit the paper to the World Food Prize Foundation by July 1st. See the Student & Mentor Handbook for more information.

At the GYI, each student will present a brief overview of their paper to a group of peers and experts. Selected students and teachers or mentors will be required to share their experience upon return with their high school, a sponsor and two other organizations.
